Venison is an up and coming LA based act who is quietly building a name. Featuring JP Von Hitchburg on vocals and guitar, Eloy Palacios on bass (both also from Schwarznator), along with drummer Philippe Mathys (from Hydrovibe). Musically falling upon a modern progressive rock/metal style, this trio packs quite the power and is equally entertaining live. They were recently spotted performing at the Good Hurt in West Los Angeles.

I came across this band a few years ago and fans of extreme metal will enjoy this. Featuring drummer Alfonso Pinzon and guitarist Andres Jaramillo of Colombian metallers Agony, Dreams of Damnation frontwoman Loana dP Valencia, bassist Alejandro Corredor and guitarist Adrian Villanueva, they released an EP ‘Day of the Dead’ in 2005, building their cult status across the metal underground. Now their latest CD, ‘Satánico Dramático’ is available for free via download at www.DDLM.net. Produced by Roy Z (Halford, Sepultura), mastered by Maor Appelbaum (Yngwie Malmsteen, Armored Saint) and artwork done by Mexican artist Lucio Hernandez.
‘Satanico Dramatico’ features a who’s who in the metal underground, from Tony ‘Maldito X’ Campos (ASESINO) on ‘Sigo Siendo El Rey’, Jeff Walker (CARCASS/BRUJERIA) & Scott Carlson (REPULSION) on ‘Fresh Meat For The Grinder’, Boris Bonillo (LETUM ASCENSUS) on ‘The Fifth Republic’, Anton Reisenegger (LOCK UP/PENTAGRAM) on ‘Bestia De Las Mil Cabezas’, and Andrés Giménez (A.N.I.M.A.L.) on ‘Sigo Vivo’.
I recently met this band around LA called Media Solution. Originally from Italy, these guys play a modern blend of metal which they have been crafting since 2001. Their guitarist Andi Martis showed me their Nathan Cox directed video for ‘My Soul Still Burns.’ They’ve already made some waves internationally and now they’re slowly getting their name known within the US. They recorded a CD with producer Mikey Doling (of Snot, Soulfly & Channel Zero), which is out now.
This is the latest video by House of Broken Promises. Directed by Rick Kosick (of Jackass, Big Brother Magazine & rickkosick.com fame). They play killer riff rock and kick ass doing it. Enjoy.
I recently interviewed Andrew WK for Noisecreep, a music related website I started writing for. I liked his music and found him to be a very delightful interview. He is a goofball but his music is a lot of fun to listen to. I will repost the interview here once it runs. This video is from Furnace Fest in Birmingham, Alabama. I’m not sure what year this was but I recall it being a hardcore fest. These types of fests are becoming lesser each year due to various reasons, but this is something you won’t see every day. Enjoy.
Finding good rock bands in Los Angeles is rough, and not sure why it’s become this way. But one band I stumbled upon is KYNG, a power trio who combine powerful riffs along with melodies everyone will become familiarized with soon. Drummer Pepe Clark Magana and bassist Tony Castaneda are best known for their time in Ankla, while vocalist/guitarist Eddie Veliz was in Castaneda’s pre-Ankla band, Ounce of Self. Their music takes heavy Sabbath-style riffs with the soulfulness of Soundgarden - while adding lots of melody and power behind their overall sound. These guys rock and should not be taken lightly.
